Chief Minister Siddaramaiah submits resignation to Governor’s Secretary Prabhu Shankar
(Bengaluru) Bengaluru: Siddaramaiah on Thursday submitted his resignation as Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation to Governor’s Secretary Prabhu Shankar and addressed a press conference at Home Office Krishna.
He announced that he has resigned as Chief Minister.
I had said earlier that I would resign whenever the high command asks me to resign. Similarly, today I have resigned as Chief Minister, he said. Siddaramaiah got emotional in his farewell speech, Siddaramaiah held a farewell press conference.
In his farewell speech, Siddaramaiah remembered Dr. Rajkumar. Rajkumar used to say that his fans are his God. I am a politician and our voters are his fans. I believe that the Constitution is his God, said Siddaramaiah. I have got the opportunity to serve the 7 crore people of Karnataka, a state in Kannada. I have got the opportunity to serve the people of Karnataka as the Chief Minister twice. I was the Leader of the Opposition twice.
On this occasion, I would like to express my immense gratitude to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for giving me this opportunity.
I joined the Congress in 2006. Since then, Congress workers, all leaders, MLAs, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members have shown me love. They have given me the opportunity. I thank all of them on this occasion, said Siddaramaiah.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said that I will do as I said – I have given my word to the high command. Siddaramaiah resigned from the post of Chief Minister on Thursday afternoon, May 28. Siddaramaiah is one of those who have completed a full 5 years as Chief Minister in the history of Karnataka politics. Siddaramaiah holds the record of presenting the budget 17 times.
It remains to be seen what Siddaramaiah’s next move will be, after he declined the Rajya Sabha seat.
