Jayashree Krishna Environmental Society celebrates silver jubilee
Minister K.J. George, Minister UT Khader inaugurated the program
(Mangaluru) Mangaluru: Jayashree Krishna Environmental Society is one of the top organizations that has done exemplary work in the state. The contribution of the committee is significant, said State Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George.
He was speaking while inaugurating the silver jubilee of Jayashree Krishna Environmental Society held at Kudgul Ranga Rao Town Hall in Mangaluru on Sunday evening.
The government is taking several steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply to coastal districts and 120 substations are being built. He said that pending issues are also being resolved under the Akram-Sakram scheme.
Non-Resident Indian businessman and Institute of Directors Distinguished Fellow Dr. Ronald Colasso said that development and environment are not opposites. Both should coexist and move forward in harmony. Greater emphasis should be given to the comprehensive development of the three coastal districts. The tourist destinations here need to be promoted internationally. He said that a separate ‘Tourism Task Force’ needs to be formed for the development of coastal tourism.
The founder of the committee, Tonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty, said that a permanent 24×7 power supply system should be provided to the coastal districts without any load shedding, and many projects should be formulated for the comprehensive development of the coast. Every year, a barrier wall is being built by placing stones to prevent sea erosion. But during sea erosion, they erode. Jayakrishna Shetty urged the government to implement a system for building a permanent concrete barrier on the model of Mumbai’s Marine Dive.
Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader said that we need to think in various dimensions with a view to the future. We should try to implement the works required for development from time to time. He said that development is possible locally only when economic activities gain momentum.
The committee was presided over by the chairman of the committee, Tonse Nityananda D. Kotian. Legislative Council member Ivan D’Souza, Coastal Karnataka Development Board working chairman M.A. Gafoor, Buntara Samiti Sangha Mumbai president Praveen Bhoja Shetty, Vishwa Devadiga Mahamandal president Dharmapala Devadiga, Dubai businessman Dr. David Frank Fernandes, coordinator K.P. Jagadish Adhikari, treasurer Sadananda N. Acharya, fund collection committee working chairman Dr. R.K. Shetty and others were present.
Dakshina Kannada-Udupi division working chairman Harish Kumar M. Shetty welcomed. Spokesperson Dayasagar Chowta compered the program. Honorary general secretary Mundkur Surendra Salyan proposed the vote of thanks.
At the beginning of the program, a cultural program called ‘Natyalahari’ was performed by the Natyaranga troupe of Puttur under the direction of Vidushi Manjula Subrahmanya.
