(Bengaluru) Bengaluru: In a development that has created a huge stir in Karnataka politics, Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot officially accepted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation from his post on Friday morning (May 29).

Siddaramaiah had resigned from his post on Thursday (May 28) on the instructions of Delhi leaders. The Governor issued an official notification in this regard today, stating that the Siddaramaiah-led cabinet has been dissolved with immediate effect.

The Governor’s office has clarified that Siddaramaiah will continue in that post as the interim Chief Minister until the next alternative arrangements are made, that is, until a new Chief Minister is elected and sworn in.

Next CM D.K. Shivakumar

As decided by the Congress high command meeting held in Delhi, the current Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Siddaramaiah has resigned to make way for Shivakumar as the Chief Minister. After completing just three years in his second term, Siddaramaiah has taken this decision on the instructions of Congress leaders. D.K. Shivakumar will soon take charge as the new Chief Minister.

Continuation in state politics: Siddaramaiah

Addressing a press conference on Thursday after submitting his resignation, Siddaramaiah made it clear that the party high command had offered him a Rajya Sabha seat, but he had politely rejected it.

“I will continue in active politics and will remain in Karnataka,” Siddaramaiah said.
